White and Red Holiday Classics

Happy Holidays, everyone!

I hope everyone is finishing up last minute projects at work and finally getting to wind down and spend some time with their loved ones for the Holidays. I know every year it seems like I have this giant bucket list of all the things I want to do, and then time just gets away from me. I also know that the Holiday blues are likely to creep up for some, especially if “winding down” and “quality time” are nowhere in sight for you. I get it! Andrew is gone for awhile, interfering with my bucket list 😉 which I’m very used to, by now. When Andrew is deployed for the Holidays, it can feel so lonely. This Christmas, however, we’re lucky enough to have him, and we’ll only have to suffer his absence for a little while.

Having a really great support system has helped me tremendously. In the past, it hasn’t been that way. Andrew and I don’t have any family nearby, and no one wants to be another couple’s tag-along! In my mind, I imagined a very specific kind of friend I was supposed to make. Married, in the military, with children. I’ll go on record to say I have absolutely no idea why this was my “criteria” for finding friends, it was more of a subconscious thing more than anything.

Fast forward to now, I have the most eclectic group of really great friends. Some are really introspective and reserved, while others are ridiculously outgoing (and super weird). And of course, only a handful of them are married and have kids. Our non-married, childless friends have become like aunts and uncles to Isla, and we love them like family! Which is truly what they’ve become at this point – our family away from family.

So cheers to everyone! I hope everyone finds their support system in whichever form it takes to help you either celebrate or endure the Holidays.

Onto the shiny things! I’m really loving the red lip/neutral sweater combo this year. During the Holidays is really the only time I wear red lipstick, and it took me a long time to build up the confidence to wear it. It’s so bold, and sometimes I feel like its a little much on me – but during Christmas, I just suck it up and wear it because I like it! #sorrynotsorry

I also LOVE this high-low tie sleeve top. The brand I’m wearing is Kensie, but I wasn’t able to find the exact one online for you guys so I’ve linked a couple similar tops at different price points.

Christmas Jammies

Merry Christmas everyone! It’s that time of year again that makes us all crazy – some with delight and some with madness!

Personally, for me, it’s delight! I love the traditions my family (near and far) have created for ourselves and I can’t wait to do each and every one of them!

One of our personal favorites – Christmas jammies. Both Andrew’s parents and my parents always gave us new pajamas for Christmas. This was the one gift we were allowed to open on Christmas Eve so that when we woke up, we were in our beautiful new jammies for Christmas pictures. Our moms are smart cookies 😉

It looks like we’re not the only family who partakes in this tradition, though! There are so many cute Christmas pajama pictures going around, some people even choosing to take their family Christmas photos in them! So, I’ve decided to link some of my favorites for everyone below.

Hey, ladies! It’s finally time to whip out those chunky sweaters and jeans! Well, for most of us anyway. San Diego weather is pretty consistent all year round, but the marine layer in the morning is the perfect time to really sink into all those comfy, fall feels. This cardigan is lulu’s from last year, but I linked some similar ones that I LOVE. Jeans are Old Navy, and I did the rips myself. Linking some realllly cute ripped jeans at different price points, as well.

Lace is so in for the fall, guys! Pair this cardigan with some pumps and a black lace top and it’s such a comfy way to make a statement. I also love to get my hair colored darker for the fall! I’ll admit that I’ll be wearing this cardigan way to much this fall/winter – only because it’s basically stylish pajamas and that is so my jam!

Southern California Autumn

Natives know how tricky the weather can be here! One night/morning we get a big fog and you wake up half tempted to turn on the heat, and then the next thing you know it’s 80 degrees!I’m not having it. I decree that as soon as October 1st comes, the weather should immediately drop to 60 degrees. I know that my family in New England are incredulous right now. Instead of judging, throw some of that cool autumn breeze our way!

Any who, I’m resisting the urge to bring back out my summer wardrobe and I’m just making it work you guys. This dress/flannel combo is cool enough to bare the 80 degree days and just cozy enough to keep your wardrobe fall-inspired. I’m diggin it. Pair it with some white vans and you’re set!

Summer Trends that Moms can Rock: The Wrap Skirt

Picture

Picture

Picture

Don’t you love those titles that are mildly offensive and drag you in? You neither? Eh, good.Moms can rock whateverthehell they want, of course, but that’s not what I mean by this title, mamas.

There are sooo many cool trends out there, like white rompers and jumpsuits. Or white pants. Or white ANYTHING.

But not being able to keep up with the times is a small price to pay for all those beautiful, nasty, sticky hands and feet and kisses. Being moms means sometimes trends aren’t practical – like skirts! Who on earth can wear skirts when you have a child who just unabashedly, at any moment, could lift it up to peek underneath? (Yes, this has happened).

No, skirts are just a no for me and other mamas, I’m sure. UNTIL I found Show Me Your Mumu’s ‘Great wrap short’ line. This skirt/short combo comes in so many flattering patterns and I love how practical they are with the shorts underneath.

I linked more options/patterns below! I would suggest going up a size if you’re unsure. I’m wearing a size large and there’s definitely no wiggle room!

Laid-Back Summer Beachwear

Picture

Picture

Picture

Hey ladies! It’s been a busy summer at the Behrens household, so blogging has been put on the back-burner! We’ve been juggling house projects (which I can’t wait to share soon), crazy military schedules, work, and isla-entertaining…it’s been a wild ride!

Speaking of being busy, my clothing has to keep up. I refuse to wear uncomfortable clothing in general, but it’s especially true when I’m busy and rushing about. That’s why this summer I’m living in kimono’s and coverups like this – they’re just so comfy. We’re usually at the beach, whether it’s just for a quick playground stop or for a full on excursion, living a mile from the beach means we’re there ALL the time. These beach kimono’s/coverups are the absolute best for these little adventures!

They’re everywhere, but I bought mine from a boutique that came to one of our local festivals this weekend called Lotus and Luna . If you’re local, I love to support local companies (and no, this post is not sponsored) but if not, I linked a couple more below!

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; cb = new Date().getTime().toString(); p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js?cb=1500241087101?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

Spring Cardi’s

Picture

Picture

Picture

I’ll tell you why I love this trend for a couple different reasons.

1.) You get some shoulder/arm coverage without adding too much warmth! I’ve become a little crazy about showing my arms these days, but I’m working on it! I just feel more comfortable with a cover or a cardigan of some sort. Until I get my summer arms under control, I’ll go for the lace cardi option.

2.) Butt coverage. Same thing! I have a large backside. No bragging here though, it’s not exactly large in the bubble butt way, but in the way that a barge is large. Okay, I kid. Not that big. Regardless, I love the comfort these guys give. It’s lacy and attractive but still lets you cover up a bit. The best of both worlds!

Mine is Forever 21 from last year, but I’ve linked some similar ones (including plus size options, yay!) Isla’s embroidered shirt is from Mexico, but her shorts and shoes are linked below!

Mother-Daughter Wardrobe Planning

Picture

Picture

Hey everyone! I just wanted to do a quick spring and summer wardrobe roundup for Isla and I. I always plan way ahead and catch the sales so that by the time a different season rolls around and she requires different clothing, it’s ready to go! Planning for sizing can be difficult, but I just always save the receipts in case it doesn’t end up fitting.

To be honest, I know I’m a dork but I just don’t care. I only have one daughter and I’m going to enjoy dressing us alike while she still lets me. So bring on the mother-daughter outfits!

For the spring/summer time, I’m obsessed with these cute off the shoulder tops. Luckily, they have them for toddlers too! I sprang on the opportunity to stock up on some. The ones I got Isla are great because they’re long sleeved and will be good for the Spring time here too. I just add a light jacket when we go out at night and it’s perfect.

Anything I bought that is now out of stock I’ll try to replace with something similar or something I like better. Happy shopping guys!

Let me explain this widget a bit. If you click on the first picture of the off-the-shoulder top (shown in black below) it’s actually is the exact top I’m wearing and comes in pink! The yellow little girls top below is the same top Isla’s wearing, it comes in pink too. You can also pair that toddler off-the-shoulder top with the women’s pompom off-the-shoulder top right next to it shown in baby blue, it comes in the most beautiful color yellow, too!

I’ve linked everything I could find, and I’ll add more as I find them. If you keep looking through the widget, I’ve linked more of some of the things I bought Isla for her summer wardrobe. That pink ribbon little sunhat is to die for and so great for summer! Also, so many cute little sandals! I love them all.

Cold Shoulder Spring Attire

Picture

Hey everyone!

So great to get back to blogging a bit. Since Andrew’s homecoming, we’ve just been enjoying family time and getting back into a groove together. There is so much happiness in our home and we are so grateful to be together! So we’re soaking up every free moment while we can.

I did some last minute shopping before Andrew got home and grabbed some awesome spring steals from Forever 21 and Anthropology, I’ll post more on that outfit later!

This Contemporary V-Neck Sweater‘ from Forever 21 is the stuff of dreams and you can still snag it online for $23! It’s not scratchy and uncomfortable, either. You can pair it with jeans, but its also just long enough to wear with some yoga pants/leggings too. It runs a bit small, I’m wearing a size XL. I’ve also linked my Vince Camuto booties from a couple years ago and they’re on sale for a quarter of the price at Nordstrom Rack!

Seriously though, I like to stay comfortable. This is kind of my definition of dressing up to go to a casual dinner out with the family. To be honest, any outfit combo that allows me to wear leggings and a sweater and still makes it look like I’m trying is a winner in my book!

Casual Work Favorites

Picture

Picture

Picture

Picture

Hi everyone!

After a fantastic (and very stylish) business meeting this morning, I decided to put together some work-style favorites on the blog! I hate the process of getting dressed for events that I don’t have the proper attire for. If you work at a conservative location, being creative with your wardrobe can be difficult. So I get it! You’re working. Not all of us have the time or energy to pull together fashionable outfits. Some of us barely have time to feed ourselves.

However, I’m a firm ‘feel how I look’ kinda gal. I’m just going to go ahead and throw that out there. As such, I prefer to feel comfortable and confident. That’s why I linked some really cool/comfortable work pairing classics from H&M (they’re having an awesome sale right now). I love their button up tops, the one I’m wearing is 100% viscose so it has a really relaxed, soft feel.  I love the leather skirt trend right now, too. That striped button up brown leather skirt combo is to die for!
